Parenting Difficult Behaviors in Young Children

Audience

Parents or caregivers who have one or more child (ages 2-9) and want to improve their parent-child relationships. This workshop is for parents of children with mild behavior problems (ie. tantrums, defiance, difficulty with transitions, impulsivity and inattention).

Positive parenting

The course teaches skills that can help adults practice positive ways of interacting with children.

Workshop format

This interactive educational workshop offers instruction in positive parenting skills based on the CARE—child adult relationship enhancement curriculum. The curriculum was developed from evidence-based parenting practices.

Groups of about 5-8 parents will meet by Zoom for 4 hours to learn and practice ways to connect with children, support social-emotional learning, give effective directions, and address mild problematic behaviors.

Dr. Andrea Mann is a board-certified Stanford University trained pediatric and adult psychiatrist, who previously worked as the co-director of the Young Child Clinic at University of Chicago, Division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Mann is passionate about supporting parents, and has expertise in treating disruptive behaviors and anxiety disorders. She has previously led workshops in Child Adult Relationship Enhancement (CARE), and is a Parent Child International Therapy (PCIT) certified therapist. She continues to mentor, supervise, and teach psychiatry and psychology trainees as a Volunteer Clinical Assistant Professor at University of California, San Diego.

  • Dr. Mann is offering workshops every 2-3 months. They typically run for 3-4 consecutive weeks. More workshops may be added as demand increases.

  • Yes, Dr. Mann will have prepared content to present for 1 hour and allow for questions for the remaining 15 minutes.

  • Yes. One registration is required per 2 caregivers from a given family.

  • Dr. Mann will record all four sessions and make them available to participants registered for a given workshop.

  • Yes, the workshop will be recorded and shared with registered participants only.

  • Yes, there is a sliding scale that Dr. Mann can offer to families who cannot afford the full fee. However, discounting the fee is dependent on there being enough registered families to be able to run the workshop.
