Shyness, Social Phobia, & Self Esteem Issues
Shyness is a genetically based temperament that usually begins in toddlerhood and grows over the course of one’s childhood. Shyness can be reinforced by life experiences, parenting practices, and other people’s reactions to it. Shyness is a response to fear that results in a sense of awkwardness or nervousness that some individuals feel in new social situations.
Dr. Mann has worked with individuals to help manage their shyness through a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach. Learning new ways to think, behave and react to fear-inducing situations as well as working with a fear hierarchy can help individuals gain tools for managing shyness.
